Two dead, ten hospitalized after vehicle crashes into West Vancouver wedding party: Police

A automobile collided with a wedding party at a private property in West Vancouver on Saturday, leaving two people dead.

West Vancouver Police first said that there were three fatalities, but have subsequently corrected themselves and now state that there were just two.

At around 6:10 p.m., police were called in response to a report of a car collision close to the 400-block of Keith Road, east of Park Royal.

According to police, the motorist was a lady in her late 60s who was backing out of the shared driveway next door when she suddenly accelerated and struck many guests at the wedding.

Just before 6:30 p.m., 12 units—11 ground ambulances and one air ambulance—were sent to the area, according to BC Emergency Health Services.

Ten persons were hospitalised as of 9 p.m. on Saturday, two of whom are in critical condition and three of whom are in serious condition.

BCEHS noted that the five others were transferred in stable condition.

Assistant Chief Jeremy Duncan with West Vancouver Fire & Rescue stated, "Unfortunately, it was simply a horrible, tragic occurrence."

It appears to be an accident and a very, very sad circumstance, not purposeful or illegal in any way.

At the scene, the motorist was questioned but not detained.

Police did not offer an update on her health after transporting her to the hospital.

The investigation has been taken over by West Vancouver Police.
